How We Created Our Best-Selling Fancy Biscuit Hamper

You’d think the best business ideas come from meetings where we all put our heads together and analyse trends and forecasts and all that boring stuff. Not in our case! In reality, most of our best ideas come from a throwaway comment at home. The story behind our Luxury Biscuit Hamper is a perfect example.

One day, in his usual way, Oscar casually dropped into conversation, ‘We need a luxury biscuit hamper’. ‘What do you mean?’, we said. ‘We’ve already got hampers with biscuits in!’. He said, ‘No! We need a hamper filled with biscuits’. And that was that, idea dropped. No follow up, no action plan, he just walked off and left us with that thought. Classic Oscar.

Oscar is generally known for his great ideas, so we ran with it and got to work. Initially we thought it would be a simple challenge, but it took a few iterations to get the balance just right.

 Finding the Right Assortment of Biscuits

We wanted to create a proper, fancy biscuit hamper, not just any old box of assorted biscuits. The idea was to curate something akin to a luxury biscuit selection box, something generous that felt truly indulgent. A familiar assortment, but one that’s genuinely exciting to dive into. Therefore, it was important to avoid the predictable types of biscuits you usually find in biscuit hampers. We needed to get into the Goldilocks zone where the balance is just right.

We wanted to ensure we crammed the hamper with as many biscuits as physically possible.

Funnily enough, Oscar reappeared for the biscuit taste testing phase! It was extensive (we ate a LOT of biscuits!), but we have to do the tough jobs to ensure we select the absolute best products for you, our lovely customers! So, we munched, crunched and dunked our way into the early hours until we were all in agreement. Not a crumb was left unturned!

Our original decision consisted of a box of 14 biscuits, but there were a couple of surprise dark horses that we just couldn’t leave out, plus, we wanted to ensure we crammed the hamper with as many biscuits as physically possible.

‘What are the dark horses?’ we hear you ask. Well, there were two biscuits that we weren’t expecting to even consider:

These were one of those eye-opening, ‘ooh they’re actually really tasty!’ biscuits. And in a further discovery, they go exceptionally well with a hot chocolate.

Walkers Stem Ginger Biscuits

We know these are usually stereotyped as an older person’s biscuit choice (they even give us flashbacks of the many supermarket trips during lockdown hunting for stem ginger for the grandparents) but hear us out! They are genuinely lovely biscuits that give the hamper a bit of personality.
